The End

It's always good to take time off of your regular day and observe your surroundings, because you'll be surprised by the things that nature has to offer you. For me, my apple tree has offered me many rewards and suprises: from eating a delicious sweet green apple to observing birds pick at the apples too.

Nature is a form of massage that relaxes a person's mind, and lets them forget about other things; like problems for example. According to an article by Scientific American, all kinds of people are used to the same routine almost everyday of their life's, causing for the brain to get used to repetition: which makes a person feel unhealthy, causing them to age faster. (ScientificAmericanInc.) Thats why it's good for people to go out on nature walks and smell the fresh air along with enjoying the beautiful sceneries that nature offers to them. It's a form of therapy that helps people relax and makes them think of peace, instead of stressing out.

Research shows that out of all the kinds of trees that there are, fruit trees are the most beneficial towards relaxing the mind of a human due to their fruit and animals that visit them. (Almanac) The article explains that the smell of the fruit and the experience of looking at the creatures that come and visit the tree offers a peaceful space in their brain that helps them relax and forget about any other problems they might have.

My apple tree has really helped me experience nature as it really is and has helped me relax every afternoon after boxing practice. Doing the same thing everyday can be boring and make you feel older and older as the days go by, atleast that's how I felt until I got the chance to observe my apple tree and taste it's delicious fruit called an Apple.

December

This month (December) as we all know is the month where it's supposed to snow because of Christmas, but up to present day there is still no snow. Every morning this month I wake up and hope that it has snowed, but it just has not happend.

As I wake up every morning I look outside my window where my apple tree is, I look there to see if there's any snow outside but all I see is a cloudy cold sky with no trace of snow. The other morning as I opend my curtains and looked outside, I observed that the leafs on my tree where shiny, so I hurried up and went outside to look at why it was. Turns out they were frozen, so that made me wonder two things: one, does this mean it's going to snow pretty soon? And two, how do leafs get frozen?

For the first question, it turns out that I still have been waiting for it to snow, because the weather here in Reno is so crazy: one day it can be as sunny as it can be and another it can be as cold as a refrigerator, which makes it hard to know when it will snow. But I guess it will come as a surprise, if it ever comes. Last year, it only snowed a couple of times and it looks as though this year will be the same.

For the second question, I did some research and according to the USDA FOREST SERVICE, the leafs of trees are much more weaker and tender than those of plants and evergreen plants which contain a type of wax that keeps them protected from any type of severe cold weather.(Tackett)

Throught out these months I have learned so many things from my apple tree. I hope that it eventually snows here in Reno and that my tree keeps offering more surprises like those of the last couple of months.

Deciduous or Coniferous

I've been noticing many things in my tree these past weeks that I never took time to realize and make a differance in the way it looks.

At the begining of November I thought that my apple tree would lose all of its leafs because the season was turning from autumn to winter, but turns out to be that it didn't loose all of its leafs. It lost a few but not as many to make it look naked. After observing that the tree didn't lose all of its leafs, I found out that it's a coniferous tree, in other words its a tree that doesn't lose all of its leafs.

I thought it was like any other ordinary tree that would lose its leafs (deciduous) but it's the total opposite and kept all of its leafs. I was surprised when I found out that it was actually a coniferous tree because I was waiting for all of the leafs to fall off but I was going to end up waiting for ever because it wasn't going to happen.

I'm looking forward to see what my tree is going to offer me in the future, but for now I'm still trying to accept that it's a coniferous tree. The next couple of weeks are going to be colder so I will see what's new.

What a Wonderful Taste

Remember how in my last blog I mentioned that I was going to tell my mom to get some apples from the tree before they would get all old and nasty?? Well we did, and let me tell you..... It was very delicious!!

This was a very delicious apple that made my taste buds feel very happy. The first slice of apple that I ate was so sweet that it seemed like I was eating a handful of green skittles. It was almost as though my taste buds were having a party on my tongue. I'm surprised that this apple still had a good taste, because after hanging for so long I would have imagined it tasting sour and nasty. Two days after my last blog, I told my mom to come with me to get some apples from the tree. I'm glad we went and got the good apples left on the tree before the birds attacked them and left them all nasty, because if not then there would have not been any good looking apples.

The moment my mom cut the apple into slices, I saw that it contained a lot of juice in it and looked good. Since I saw that the apple tasted good after all, I told my mom why not make an apple salad for later. So she did and let me tell you, it was very delicious and healthy. I think next time I'm gonna help her make an apple pie. Some of the benefits of having an apple tree are that you can have as many apples as you want and can do almost anything with them. The benefit that I gained from having an apple tree is that I can eat apples in different ways: from salads to pies and even as a snack.

I have also discoverd that there are less apples hanging from the tree now, compared to a couple of weeks ago. I wonder when they will all fall down. But for now I'm enjoying the beautiful scenes that it offers me.

New Discoveries

So far in my project I have found new beauties that I have never seen before in my apple tree that gives me peace and offers me a moment to realize how beautiful nature really is.

A couple of weeks after my class and I have begun our project, I noticed little to no change at all in my apple tree. But as I began to observe closer and take note in everything that it has to show me, I discoverd how beautiful nature really is. In the top left picture, as you can see is my apple tree. It's the big picture of my project, that picture in real life is where all the magic happens. As you can see, in the top right picture, one thing that really amazed me was that out of all of the leafs on the tree, there was only one red leaf hanging from a broken branch. I discovered this heart-shaped red leaf on a peaceful evening after my boxing practice, it left me confused because it was the only red one out there.

In the bottom left picture, I commenced to notice how the apples began to fall down little by little to the ground. There was one, then two, following three, and on it went. The apples still hanging from the branches were really good, and so I told my mom that we should eat them before they were all on the ground and nasty, so we grabbed some and took them inside to wash them up and eat them.

In the bottom right picture, I captured a bird that seemed to be relaxing on one of the branches. It just came up to a branch, and started to poke at an apple with its beak. A couple of moments later, it flew away and dissapeared.

So far in this project I have tooken in value to take notice in nature and to reserve time to just relax and enjoy the beauties that life offers us.

A New Beginning

For my AP English class, we will be conducting an observation project of which I chose nature as my project: My Apple Tree

I chose to observe my apple tree in my backyard because I love how each year in a special time of the year, the apple tree grows delicious green apples that have a great taste and make a good/healthy snack.

The apple tree in my back yard has been there for quite a while now, and has been growing green apples since. The apples begin to grow around mid-August and last for about 1 month before they begin to turn ugly and taste not so good. I have always noticed how the tree begins out straight at the beginning of the year, but as the year progresses and apples begin to abound, the tree begins to bend diagonally as well as the branches start to break.

During these observations I hope to find out how the weather, animals, and insects affect the apple tree itself and the apples that grow upon it. Also, I would like to take note in how the apples taste as they grow older and older as the days go by.
